China Town: Packed with market stalls, street-side restaurants and a dense concentration of gold shops, Chinatown is an experience not to miss. The energy that oozes from its endless rows of wooden shop-houses is plain contagious – it will keep you wanting to come back for more. Plan your visit during major festivals, like Chinese New Year, and you will see Bangkok Chinatown at its best.
Thonburi: Thonburi does get its fair share of visitors, many of whom shuffle onto the regular ferries that make the short but fun journey across Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River to the western side. This ever-developing area has so much to offer. With untouched local villages hugging the narrow water-ways, fascinating museums and quaint local markets, there’s plenty of interesting, off-the-beaten-path things to do and see in Thonburi.
MEETING POINT: RIVER CITY
The tour will show you part the real Bangkok. Highlights of the tour are the exploration of Chinatown’s narrow alleyways, markets and backstreets as well as the charming local areas of Thonburi
Starting in the heart of Chinatown, our bike-ride explores its frenetic market environment. Winding through narrow alleyways, our senses come alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of a community in motion. We’ll pass by shop houses selling everything from Buddhist amulets to recycled truck engines. Locals worshiping at hidden temples, ritual paper burnings, and the omnipresent spirit house display evidence of a culture centuries in the making
Crossing the Chao Phraya River with majestic views of the city skyline behind us, we visit Thonburi, the historic third capital of Thailand. Contrasting chaotic Chinatown, peaceful elements of local Thai life abound as we cycle through diverse residential communities. Inquisitive smiles and friendly greetings reinforce the feeling we have truly left the “beaten path” and are now experiencing the REAL Bangkok
