Go on a lovely half-day bike ride through the charming city of Chiang Mai. Discover ornate teak homes, visit ancient temples, ride along the beautiful Ping River, and learn about Thai cuisine at bustling market places – all on a bicycle!
We explore the suburbs of Chiang Mai by bicycle – a great way to discover some of the less-known highlights. We visit the temple ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the former capital of Lanna and learn more about the rich cultural background of Chiang Mai. Wiang Kum Kam was an influential city in the 13th century but was finally abandoned because of continuous flooding. The Fine Arts Department started excavating and restoring the ruins in the mid 80’s and it’s delightful to visit them. We will visit some of the ‘hidden’ ruins of Wiang Kum Kam such as Wat Ku Padom and Wat Huanong, our favorite site. We will continue to McKean Rehabilitation Centre. We cycle through the treeshaded lanes of this beautiful complex that now is home to disabled people and houses a hospital and numerous other buildings. We will stop at a small handicraft shop. After this we cycle along the Ping Riverbanks and breathe the local atmosphere that makes Chiang Mai so special.Via a different route we cycle back to the centre of Chiang Mai where you can enjoy a refreshment and sit down for a moment before our car transfers you back to your hotel in Chiang Mai. This tour starts from the centre of Chiang Mai and you should be comfortable with riding a bicycle in the traffic. If you are not confident then we will use extra transport to a starting point outside the city and there is a surcharge of THB 350 per person.
